Unveiling Party for New Tokyo Office and New Development Framework

On November 5, an unveiling party was held at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya. It was attended by 60 guests from the marine shipping industry, shipbuilding industry, onshore industries, the political and financial worlds, and other areas.

 

Representative Director and President Masato Oda started off the event with the following statement: “We are holding today’s event in order to make the following three important announcements: (1) As of April 2019, our company name will be changed from Uzushio Electric Co., Ltd. to BEMAC Corporation. Furthermore, the uzushio [whirlpool] logo, a symbol of our company, will continue being used at the group company Uzushio Enterprise Co., Ltd. (2) We will be opening Tokyo Data Labo—this is the main announcement for tonight’s event. (3) We want to introduce everyone here to MaSSA, which is short for ‘The Maintenance system for Soundness Sailing Ability’ and has been established with an eye to future technological developments.”

 

Next, one of the event’s guests, Senior Deputy Director-General Shinichiro Otsubo of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Maritime Bureau, introduced the Company’s marine, industrial and electric vehicle (EV) business activities, expressed his high expectations for the Company’s new technological framework, and offered other kind words of support and praise.

 

Mizuho Bank, Ltd. Managing Executive Officer Takuya Kogiso then talked about his bank’s business dealings with Uzushio Electric which have continued for more than half a century, discussed the current state of the maritime industry and the ways in which he expects utilization of leading-edge technologies to set Uzushio Electric (BEMAC) apart from its competitors, and delivered some congratulatory words for this special occasion. He followed his speech by raising a glass in cheers, and all present began chatting freely among each other.

 

Even though the National Diet was in session at the time, Minister of State and Chairperson of the National Public Safety Commission Junzo Yamamoto took time out of his lunch break to make an appearance at the celebration and deliver some strong words of encouragement: “Uzushio Electric plays an important role in Imabari, a maritime city that is central to Japan’s shipbuilding, marine transport and ship machinery industries. Moving forward, I hope you will continue contributing to the further invigoration of Japanese industry.”

 

In regard to the three items introduced by Representative Director and President Oda at the outset, Uzushio Electric Director Shinjiro Hamano discussed the future frameworks and direction for the Tokyo Office and Tokyo Data Labo. Next, Tokyo Data Labo Director Makoto Murakami outlined the Labo’s specific rolls and explained MaSSA, and then guests moved to the 32nd floor where they viewed the Company’s new office.
